Mattiske Consulting is an environmental consultancy with a strong focus on botany and plant ecology.
We are a team of botanists and environmental scientists with impressive skills and wide experience in all aspects of botany, botanical surveying, environmental restoration and plant ecology. |
|
Flora and Fauna Surveys
The environmental scientists at Mattiske Consulting have many years' experience in conducting surveys of Flora, Fauna and
Vegetation throughout the states of Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory, and overseas in various
Australian External Territories.
The Floristic and Ecological skills of the team are particularly strong, and have been applied to the
full range of environments which are found in the Central and Western States and the External Territories of Australia.
The group makes extensive use of computer based data collection and mapping techniques. Most output produced by the group is in electronic
form, either as a data base (in Access, dBase, Oracle or SQL Server format),
or as a digital map image, from either ARC/INFO, ArcView, MapInfo or MicroStation.

Searches for Rare and Priority Flora and Fauna
We have extensive expertise and experience in searching for and identifying Rare, Priority and Declared Flora and Rare Fauna.
Statistically based search methodologies have been developed over many years and applied to a wide range of site types
and ecological habitats.
|
|
Environmental Auditing
We undertake regular audits of a variety of Environmental Management Systems and a wide range of Environmental Rehabilitation Programs.
These audits are usually statistically based.
|
|
Environmental Impact Assessment
On many occasions, we have been the prime contractor for the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments.
This work has required the use of other contractors with expertise in ethnology, archaeology, air monitoring,
ground and surface hydrology, geology, soils, landforms, social impact and economic impact, in addition to the teams
in-house expertise in all aspects of flora, vegetation and fauna.
|
|
Monitoring of Rehabilitation
The team has wide experience in the monitoring of the rehabilitation of disturbed areas, with particular focus on mine site rehabilitation.
Extensive use is made of statistical techniques to objectively evaluate the progress and the success of the rehabilitation of disturbed ground.
|
|
Rehabilitation Planning
The principals of Mattiske Consulting have a long history of involvement in the planning of rehabilitation activities,
with particular focus on the reestablishment of sustainable and stable vegetation regimes.
The senior staff of the company have been involved in many exercises related to the development of sustainable
completion criteria for sites, to the implementation of rehabilitation plans with well defined completion objectives and
to the auditing of rehabilitation efforts and their progress towards pre-defined completion criteria.

Geographic Information Systems
We use the ARC/INFO and ArcView GIS packages and run these packages on powerful Windows NT based work-stations.
We continue to use the MapInfo GIS package when necessary.
The GIS packages link to a central Oracle relational data base which is maintained on our computer network.
|
|
Computer Analysis of Environmental Data
We operate the ARC/INFO and ArcView map analysis (or GIS) packages, in conjunction with Access, Oracle and SQL Server databases.
All biological survey data is entered into one of those data base packages.
The MapInfo for Windows GIS package is also available for use in simpler mapping applications,
and for alignment with the GIS systems used by some of our clients.
The group uses a range of statistical analysis tools, including the Statgraphics and Systat software packages.
Analysis of multivariate data is carried out also using the PATN pattern analysis software package.
Taxonomic descriptions and identifications are aided by the DELTA software package,
a general system for processing taxonomic descriptions.
Any special programming requirements are carried out using the Microsoft Visual C++ and Microsoft BASIC languages
and an implementation of the Common LISP language for knowledge based system work.
