MATTISKE CONSULTING

Vacancies

No vacancies at present

Mattiske Consulting have no vacancies at present, but we are always interested to hear from people who believe that they may have something of value to contribute to our team of experienced botanists.

Members of our team undertake field surveys, rare and priority flora searches, vegetation mapping, literature searches, analysis of quantitative data recorded during field surveys and writing of reports.

Minimum desirable qualifications for membership of our team include a good honours degree (2A or better) in Botany, Environmental Science or Natural Resources Management, with preference for an higher degree in one of those areas. Experience and knowledge of plant ecology and plant taxonomy are essential in the type of work which we do. Report writing skills are always of value, as is experience in the use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access.

We work as a team. Therefore, an ability to engage constructively with the dynamics and the shared ethos of a small professional team is essential. In other words, you will have to get on with other people and be prepared to contribute to the continually developing culture of the team. Skills in oral and written communications, both within the team environment and with our clients, are important requisites.

There is a significant component of field work involved in the jobs we undertake, so a high degree of physical fitness and enthusiasm for outdoor work is necessary in our team. It can be very hot in some parts of Australia. In compensation, you may visit parts of this country which other people have to pay a lot of money to visit.

People who work in our team are expected to think for themselves and not to reinvent wheels. Therefore, our team members employ classical scientific techniques such as literature reviews and evaluation of previous work and research findings, as well as carrying out field work, quantitative analysis of data and interpretation of that data into local and regional contexts.

Much of our field work takes place in the country, which means that working away from home for several days at a time is a common experience. A current WA Police Certificate will be required for some field work.

Mattiske Consulting is a well regarded botanical team with a strong reputation for professionalism and for high standards of work. If you are after a regular 9 to 5, Monday to Friday type of job, with plenty of regular lunches in the City, then working with us will not appeal to you. We work hard, because what we do, we want to do very well.

Our objective is to be the best, most cost efficient and most scientifically rigorous team of botanists in this country. Therefore, we train team members, if necessary, in those aspects of field taxonomy, vegetation mapping, botanical database management, statistical analysis of botanical data and the use of computer software which their education, qualifications and prior experience do not cover. Members of our team also receive training in field craft, 4WD driving and first aid.

See below for contact details.

  Work Experience

We sometimes have positions available for botany and environmental science graduates who wish to gain work experience.

Most work will be in the field, with some data analysis and possibly report preparation in the office, working under the supervision of our permanent staff. Work would usually be provided for a 2 to 4 week period.

Where necessary, we may pay for you to obtain any regulatory qualifications such as MARCSTA or Senior First Aid.
